The search for a missing Edmonton man has expanded to all of the Mayan Riviera, with rescuers looking both on land and at sea for the local businessman.

Mark James Comey was last seen leaving his resort Sunday in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Meanwhile, friends of Comey have flocked to the area to show their support for his wife, Robin.

Family friend Lorena Dunlop said Robin is trying to keep a positive outlook as the days go on.

"She's hopeful, we're staying hopeful with her," she said. "The searches do continue. We've been treated well, and they've been doing everything down here in Mexico to help."

Local media reports say he was fighting with his wife just before he disappeared.

Meanwhile, friends insist nothing out of the ordinary happened.

"There was no fight," Dunlop said. "We're not sure if he's in the water, we're not sure if he's on the land. It is simply he's gone missing."

The Canadian consulate in Cancun says it is in close contact with local police, who are focusing their search on the ocean and will continue searching for Comey Wednesday.

"There are people in all the Riviera, you know, looking for them in the water and nobody find him yet," said Vianey Villegas, a spokesman from the Federal Police Authority in Mexico. "They took pictures of him in all the newspapers and all around."

Back in Edmonton, family continues to run Comey's gaming store Gamers Lair.
