Members of the Conservative party say Prime Minister Stephan Harper will visit Edmonton while on a visit to Alberta next week; the news comes one day after NDP leader Jack Layton accused him of ignoring the west.

Conservative incumbent in Edmonton Centre, Laurie Hawn, confirmed that Harper is stopping in the capital city.

"He's not ignoring the west at all...there's 200 seats in Ontario and Quebec and 28 in Alberta in fact that Prime Minister is going to be here this Thursday the 25th of September. It's a big country he is not ignoring Alberta or Edmonton at all," said Hawn.

NDP Leader Jack Layton was the first federal party leader to visit Edmonton.  During his stop on Saturday he accused Harper of ignoring the western provinces.

Harper will speak at the Ramada Inn on Kingsway Avenue Thursday. It is not known if he will be making any big announcements during his stop.
