A hot summer day ended with a bang on Saturday July 18, 2009 as the sunny skies were replaced with dark, ominous clouds, winds gusting to 100 km/h, heavy rain, hail, thunder and lightning. The big storm took it's toll on North central Alberta with downed trees, power outages and some property damage being reported across the region.
This gallery showcases the Sunwapta Totem through the decades with rarely seen photographs and artwork. Thought lost, the totem was rediscovered and has now been donated to the Royal Alberta Museum for restoration.
